What is Noxprin (enoxaparin sodium) used for?

• It is used to thin the blood so that clots will not form.
• It is used to treat blood clots.
• It is used to lower the number of heart attacks in patients who have unstable angina or mild heart attacks.

Important notes before taking Noxprin (enoxaparin sodium) :

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have an allergy to enoxaparin sodium or any other part of this drug. 
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any drugs like this one, any other drugs, foods, or other substances. Tell your doctor about the allergy and what signs you had, like rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have ever had a low platelet count during past use of this drug, heparin, or another drug like this one.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have bleeding problems.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have an allergy to benzyl alcohol, talk with your doctor.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if your child is a newborn or infant. This drug has benzyl alcohol in it. Benzyl alcohol may cause very bad and sometimes deadly side effects in newborns or infants. Do not give this drug to a newborn or infant. This drug is not approved for use in children.
• Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take this drug with all of your drugs and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.

Important notes while taking Noxprin (enoxaparinsodium) :

• Tell all of your health care providers that you take this drug. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.
• You may bleed more easily. Be careful and avoid injury. Use a soft toothbrush and an electric razor.
• Very bad and sometimes deadly bleeding problems have happened with this drug. Talk with the doctor.
• Have laboratory tests checked as you have been told by the doctor. Talk with the doctor.
• Use care if you weigh less than 45 kilograms.
• If you fall or hurt yourself, or if you hit your head, call your doctor right away. Talk with your doctor even if you feel fine.
• This drug has caused a health problem called heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). HIT can lead to blood clots forming, which is called heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (HITT). These can be deadly or cause other bad effects. HIT and HITT can happen up to several weeks after this drug is stopped. Talk with the doctor.
• If you are 65 or older, use this drug with care. You could have more side effects.
• Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this drug while you are pregnant.

Noxprin (enoxaparin sodium) Side effects:

Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of the following signs or symptoms that may be related to a very bad side effect:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of bleeding like throwing up blood or throw up that looks like coffee grounds; coughing up blood; blood in the urine; black, red, or tarry stools; bleeding from the gums; vaginal bleeding that is not normal; bruises without a reason or that get bigger; or any bleeding that is very bad or that you cannot stop;
• Weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, drooping on one side of the face, or blurred eyesight;
• Feeling very tired or weak;
• Dizziness or passing out;
• Swelling, warmth, numbness, change of color, or pain in a leg or arm;
• Chest pain;
• Shortness of breath;
• Change in skin color;
• Feeling confused;
• Very bad headache.

What do I do if I miss a dose?

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. 

Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

How do I store and/or throw out this drug?

• Store at room temperature.
• Store in a dry place.
• Do not flush down a toilet or pour down a drain unless you are told to do so. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions about the best way to throw out unused or expired drugs. Throw out used syringes in a safety box.
• Do not use Noxprin (enoxaparin sodium) after the expiry date which is stated on the label and carton after the expiry date.
