Early Detection: A Key Step in Combating Breast Cancer

During the event, Dr. Keynoosh Fooladi, Oncology Medical Advisor at Actoverco, highlighted the prevalence of breast cancer worldwide. She noted that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women globally and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Iranian women.

According to Dr. Fooladi, approximately one in eight women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime, with the risk increasing with age. In Iran, the most common age range for diagnosis is between 45 and 55.

She also emphasized that breast cancer is not exclusive to women, as approximately 0.5 to 1 percent of cases occur in men. However, limited awareness of this fact can contribute to delayed diagnosis and treatment among male patients.

Dr. Fooladi identified several factors associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, including a family history of the disease, known genetic mutations in individuals or their families, older age, certain hormonal conditions, a personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, and exposure to chest radiation at a young age.

She further noted that factors such as having no history of pregnancy or breastfeeding, physical inactivity, obesity, alcohol and tobacco consumption, high breast density, and exposure to certain environmental factors, including ionizing radiation, may also be considered when assessing breast cancer risk.

Atipharmed: Dedicated to Women’s Health at Every Stage of Life

In another segment of the event, Dr. Nafiseh Ghaffar Natanzi, Medical Advisor at Atipharmed, discussed the company’s focus on developing and manufacturing hormonal medicines related to women’s health.

She explained that Atipharmed was established in 2011 and, since 2017, has operated as the first Iranian pharmaceutical company to receive GMP certification for the production of sex hormone medications, utilizing technology transferred from one of Europe’s largest pharmaceutical companies.

She added that the company’s activities address women’s pharmaceutical needs at different stages of life, from early adolescence and the onset of menstruation through menopause.

Referring to the physical symptoms and mood fluctuations associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menstruation and menopause, Dr. Ghaffar Natanzi noted that these conditions can cause a range of challenging symptoms. However, various pharmaceutical treatment options are available to help alleviate and manage some of these symptoms. With appropriate treatment and medical consultation, these options can contribute to improving women’s quality of life.
