With the manufacturing and launch of Rezmiver by Actoverco Pharmaceutical Company, patients in Iran now have access to the first FDA-approved medication for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis in adults.
According to the Public Relations Department of Actoverco Pharmaceutical Group, Rezmiver contains Resmetirom as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. The medication received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March 2024.
When used alongside dietary modifications and increased physical activity, Rezmiver offers a novel approach to managing this condition by targeting pathways involved in lipid metabolism in the liver.
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a significant and progressive form of fatty liver disease closely associated with excess body weight, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and other metabolic disorders.
Resmetirom acts selectively on thyroid hormone receptor beta (THR-β) in the liver, helping regulate lipid metabolism. Activation of this pathway can increase hepatic fat metabolism and reduce fat accumulation while also contributing to improvements in markers associated with liver inflammation and injury.
Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Resmetirom in reducing liver fat and inflammation. Improvements in these parameters may also be accompanied by improvements in liver fibrosis. This is particularly important because MASH treatment aims not only to reduce hepatic fat accumulation but also to prevent the progression of liver damage and fibrosis, thereby helping reduce the risk of advanced liver disease.
Rezmiver: A New Milestone in the Development of Innovative Medicines in Iran
With the increasing prevalence of metabolic diseases and their associated complications, early diagnosis of liver conditions and the development of new treatment options have become increasingly important. In this context, the local manufacturing of Rezmiver by Actoverco Pharmaceutical Company represents a step toward expanding access to innovative treatments for eligible patients with liver diseases.
Rezmiver is an oral medication taken once daily. Its dosage is determined by the treating physician based on the patient’s individual clinical condition.
The manufacturing of this medication marks another step in the development of innovative pharmaceutical products in Iran and in addressing the treatment needs of patients living with complex and chronic diseases.
In recent years, Actoverco has pursued the development and manufacturing of specialized and innovative medicines as a key area of its activities. The introduction of Rezmiver represents another milestone in the company’s efforts to leverage advanced pharmaceutical knowledge and technologies to address the healthcare needs of the community.
