The head of Iranian Food and Drug Administration said at the opening ceremony of Actoverco’s new factory for the production of solid drugs (Actoverco 2): “This year, the issuance of production licenses by the Food and Drug Administration will be accelerated.”
According to Actoverco’s public relations, Mehdi Pirsalehi added: “We had 540 items of imported medicine which similar domestic product was available, which in the second half of last year, this number decreased to 440 items. This number will be even lower at this year. We have 160 million dollar worth of imported drugs similar to domestically produced ones that have the potential to be produced domestically; hence, their imports are gradually stopped.
He noted: “We have about 42 billion drugs consumed annually in the country. The new Actoverco line with an annual production capacity of 6 billion units is approximately equivalent to 15% of the country’s drug market, which is a very large number, and in addition to supplying the domestic drug market, it must also be exported.” Pirsalehi emphasized: “This year, we have more transparency in the production and import of medicine. In this regard, a committee has been formed in the Food and Drug Administration to delegate non-governmental affairs to organizations.”
