23rd Aban (14th November) is the World Diabetes Day.

The purpose of this day’s naming was the awareness increment about diabetes, especially type 2, as one of the most common non-communicable preventable and treatable disease.

In 2018 and 2019, countries will focus on “Diabetes and the Family”, especially on World Diabetes Day.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, more than 425 million people (5.5% of the world’s population) have the disease, and almost half of them are unaware of their disease.

The International Diabetes Federation recommends that diabetes be considered as a “concern for all families”; this recommendation means that information, education, diagnostic and treatment methods for diabetes should be made available to all people, as diabetes can affect any family.

Anyone who exposed to diabetes by any means (family history of diabetes, overweight, low physical activity, a history of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure or high blood fat) should consult with their doctor about the possibility of developing diabetes.

Immediate diagnosis of diabetes, will increase the possibility of success in treatment and prevention of this disease. Nowadays, by availability of various and novel treatments for diabetes, the chance of its control is much higher.
