What is Bempedoic acid (Bempelid®) used for?
Bempedoic reduces the level of bad cholesterol (LDL-C) in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
- This medicine is used in people with hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol levels).
- This medicine is used in people with high blood cholesterol levels and cardiovascular disease or people at high risk of developing these diseases.
Important points before taking Bempedoic acid (Bempelid®):
- Do not take Bempelid if you are allergic to bempedoic acid or any of the ingredients
- Do not use Bempelid if you take more than 40 mg of Simvastatin daily
- Before taking bempedoic acid, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have a history of gout, liver or kidney problems
- Tell your doctor if you have tendon injury
- Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- Do not use this medicine if you are breast-feeding
- Tell your doctor if you are taking statins and experience muscle pain or weakness
- Bempedoic acid does not affect your ability to drive or use machines
Important points when taking Bempedoic acid (Bempelid®):
- Tell all your health care providers that you are taking this medicine. This includes your doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and dentist
- Take Bempelid tablets exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
- You may take Bempelid with or without food
- Your healthcare provider may do blood tests to check your LDL-C levels between 8 to 12 weeks after starting treatment with Bempelid.
- In case of overdose, get medical help
Side effects of Bempedoic acid (Bempelid®)
This medicine can cause some side effects, although not everybody gets them:
- Decreased red blood cell count (anemia)
- Increased uric acid levels in the blood (gout)
- Tendon injury or rupture
- Increased liver enzyme
What can I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses
How should I store this medicine?
Store Bempelid in the original package at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C
